Helping in Tennessee

As many of you know Nashville, Tennessee, recently experienced traumatic flooding. Buildings, homes, and lives were destroyed. The estimated damage is around $1.5 billion dollars and unfortunately, took the lives of 21 people. Lutheran Disaster Response is already on the ground in Tennessee, helping as much as they can. They will be able to welcome work teams on May 24th at Camp Rau-Wood.
Camp Rau-Wood is connected to First Lutheran Church in Nashville. The camp had one cabin completely swept away in the flood. The property also suffered a great deal of damages to other cabins, roads, and buildings. When I talked with the Senior Pastor, Dan Phifer, he spoke about the tremendous loss the camp suffered, but more importantly the loss his congregational members suffered.
Some of them, he said, did not have flood insurance and lost everything. He said that he has members in his congregation who had no flooding at all and other members who had to clear out their homes completely.
He said luckily some members only had flooding in their basement, but unfortunately the whole community of Nashville is suffering from the floods. These floods damaged landmarks, business, schools, community centers, shopping centers, homes, and parks. The need is great in Nashville.
When I asked Pastor Dan what we at Trinity could do to help, he first said to pray. Then he said that his congregation is forming a Flood Relief Fund. This will allow for members in the congregation to receive a grant to help them start the rebuilding process. It will allow for people to receive more financial support and will be able to help a larger group of people.
Like Lutheran Disaster Response, their goal is to help as many people as possible.  For people who have suffered losing so much in the floods any little bit helps. He also spoke to having people come down to Nashville to help rebuild. He said that it would take years and every little bit helps.
If you would like to donate to First Lutheran Nashville or Lutheran Disaster Response, please designate your offering for either First Lutheran or LDR. We will ensure that all the money raised will be to help Tennessee Flood Victims. Thank you for your support and may we all remember to hold these people in our prayers.
