Building Relationships vs. Building Buildings

Great humanitarians don’t lead by building buildings; they lead by cultivating and nurturing relationships.  Taking the time to listen, play, and learn is a great act of love.

Walk in accompaniment next summer with Trinity members and friends from the Lower Susquehanna Synod as we embark on a journey to the only third-world country in the western hemisphere.  Here are the details about our mission:

Dates of the Trip:
Friday, July 2 – Sunday, July 11, 2010

Total Trip Cost per Person (as of August 30):
$1,250
(Note: this will be reduced for Trinity members based on the number of missionaries for 2010, and the amount of profit brought in by the benefit auction in May)

Will We Be Fundraising for the Trip?
Trinity has planned for the 2010 Auction to be a mission-benefit auction.  All missionaries will be required to volunteer for this fundraising event.  Historically, this auction has brought in $8,000 profit – and this will be applied to our mission trips and offset costs for missionaries.

What We Will Do:
The majority of us will teach classes with interpreters.  The content of our teaching will be similar to youth group teaching with a focus on the English language.  Some of us will do minor repairs and cleaning.

Who is the Trip Leader?
Jillian Rockey-Forbes is the synod leader for the trip to Haiti and has taken groups on this trip annually since 2005. Michelle Shirk will be the leader from Trinity who will work with our group as we prepare for the trip, and travel with the group to Haiti.

In order to secure your spot for the trip, please sign up at the mission bulletin board or contact Michelle.  Also, please prepare a check to “Trinity Lutheran Church” in the amount of $400 and submit it to Michelle by the October 25th deadline.
